University of Haifa has established The Haifa Center for the Study of Inequality in Israeli Society. 
The center will be the first of its kind in Israel, unique in its scope and interdisciplinary research agenda. 

With its diverse student population and multicultural setting in northern Israel, University of Haifa provides a dynamic human laboratory and
unique backdrop for research on inequality.

University of Haifa is uniquely qualified to lead research and training on inequality.
The Center will bring together its leading scholars from departments of sociology,
history, social work and welfare, and education.  University of Haifa’s reputation as a leading
interdisciplinary research institution strongly positions it to become a center
of excellence in this field.     

The University of Haifa considers the link between academic excellence and social responsibility as its key mission.

The Center reflects the University of Haifa’s deeply-rooted ethos that the University has a special responsiblity
to provide leadership on the most pressing problems of our time.

Goals:

The Haifa Center for the Study of
Inequality is committed to providing research, policy analysis and training on
inequality. The Center has five main objectives:

  • To monitor and study the evolution of inequality in Israel;
  •  To build a state-of-the-art infrastructure for research on
    inequality (e.g., data lab, research lab etc.);
  • To provide public, policymakers and other stakeholders
    science-based evidence and insights on inequality in Israel and elsewhere
    (e.g., dynamic website, briefs, Haifa conference on inequality);
  • To disseminate data and research on inequality to researchers and
    the general public; and
  • To train the next generation of scholars, social activists, and
    policy makers (e.g., undergraduate studies on inequality, scholarships for MA,
    PhD. and post-docs, research MA program on ‘inequality and welfare regimes’).
